Tried to coerce my elderly mother to phone their boss to gat back overpaid fees after asking who she banked with

A hard to understand female voice told me the Government is going to refund me $5240 for the overcharged bank fees.
All I had to do is to quote VR71 on the phone.
I was not born yesterday to see through this funny business.

My mum, Helen Scortis, received a call today from 02 803 7595 told her that the government were reimbursing people money that was over charged though electricity, gas and other ammenity companys. Told that she was entitled to a payment of $5248.00 and to call 0280037595 with an application number to get the payment sent to her by cheque. Called the number and quoted the application code and was told that a cheque was going to be delivered and would have to pay $195.00 through Western Union before the payment was to be delivered. The $195.00 was for lawyer fees that the government has employed to do the investigation of over charges. Feel this is a scam.

I received a call by the above number clearly a scam offering me $5000 in exchange for my $190. Please stop these people

Scam...These people are claiming to be some financial government agency stating you have been over charged by your bank for a total of $5k in order to receive amount they are requesting for solicitor fees of $190.
