My 80 year old mother received a call from the "ATO" advising her to call this number regarding $4900 dollars owing. She reported it to the police.

3 messages a day left on answering machine; "sedition notice filed against your name........phone 03 5198 7471 to avoid legal course of action'.

Had the same issue as Amanda for this number, but have since reported it to the ATO, who (even though it was obvious) confirmed officially that it was a scam

As per Amanda - had missed call and when I called back he said I had a warrant against me for tax evasion and had to pay approx. $5000 or would be taken to court - I ended the call - but have subsequently been receiving several calls - which I have declined to pick up - There was also the automated message - he said his name was Michael Stevens

This is a scammer number trying to get personal sensitive information. They call you first with an automated message allegedly from the ATO. In the message, they make heavy allegations towards the recipient (who they never name) with regards to tax evasion/fraud; criminal charges; a possible warrant out for your arrest and all such nonsense. They leave the number for you to call them back as a matter of urgency because the case is time-sensitive (or other such scaremongering tactics).
