scammers claiming to be a bank of a federal gvt dept - asked for personal details to refund cheque to amount of $5248 of overpaid fees. Strong foreign accent, possibly of Indian origin.

I was rung by someone claiming I was owed $5460 from Aust Govt for overpaid bank fees - they asked my birthdate and then gave me a ref no and another phone no to ring. I have googled this number and it appears it is a scam; I have not rung this number but I understand they ask you for money to set up the transfer.

Scammers trying to get details for banking

Scam claiming to be Reclaim - Office of Federal Government - rebating me $5248.00. Gave me a reference number and a number to call tomorrow to talk to Rose Brown or Alice Wilson.
They already had my address, and asked for confirmation of my birth date, which they had too.
I didn't give them any information.

rang my elderly grandparents (1 of whom is suffering badly from cancer) and was asking for bank details as they were a part of the 'Australian federal government'. Apparently my nan was owed more than $5000 by them.

Called and siad they were from the australian government and that they were going to send me a queque for 5 thousand or something like that. wanted my details such as DOB and address. phoned telstra and lodged a complaint.

Called saying gov wanted to refund me 5000 dollars had to call back a rose brown on this number they asked my d.o.b and already had my address?? This is a scam and they are pretending to be the australian government, heavy Indian accent. I am on the no call register how did they get my details??

Got a call from someone with a thick Indian accent claiming that they are from Australian Finance Department for claims, and Govt owes me $5248. Was asked to speak with Rose Brown in Sydney on this number 02-8091-7077.
When called and asked for the details and site, they just hung up.Home phone number details along with full name (most probably from directory). Hope it does not get misused.

I just received a call from someone from "Reclaim Expert Department" with a "secret" application code number: LA143. He had a very strong Indian accent, with a name of John Cooper?? Ha, ha... I also asked him where is he calling from and he told me Level 2, Angel Place District, Sydney?? Asked about house number, which he said 2000. I didn't give my DOB as I said what do you need that for, he didn't force the issue. I was supposed to receive a cheque for the amount of $5,248.00. Anyway I don't believe in sudden windfalls, so I didn't ring back, but got onto Google and found this site. What concerns me is, that they have my name, phone number and address. Mind you anybody can get it out of the phone book. I am even listed with the "Do not call register", but they are still ringing!! When I looked up the address, that's what I found: "City Recital Hall, This world class performance space is the first specially designed concert venue to be built in Sydney since the Opera House in 1973 and its opening had musicians and audiences throughout Sydney applauding."

Guy from the AU Government telling me I have been overcharged for some time and to ring above number for a $5,000 plus refund.

He gave me a reference number and return phone number to call to 'speak to his supervisor' to confirm my contact and authorise the payment to be made.

Indian called re reclaimed monies owing of $5248. Wanted me to pay $199 solicitors fee upfront to recoup this money, the cheque would be delivered to my house (they had my address) within 24-48 hours

He gave me a Application Code LA143 and return phone number to call to 'speak to his supervisor' Ross Brown to confirm my contact and authorise the payment to be made.

Someone is definitely using this number as part of a phishing scam that is listed on the ACCC website. The caller claims to be from something called the "Bank Reclaim Department", which they claim is a department with the federal government, says that the government owes you thousands of dollars in overpaid taxes, then tries to collect your banking details supposedly so they can repay the money.

A person claiming to be from this number phoned claiming to be from the "Federal Government", was unable to specify which department when asked, and tried to obtain personal banking information in order to provide a "tax refund" of $5,000. I called the number and a woman identified it as "the Bank Reclaim Department".
