I received a call advising the Australian government was to refund me about $5200 I have been overcharged.

I was not asked my full name but I wa asked for by date of birth as "confirmation". I provided a false one and no comment was made.

To get it I had to call 02 8007 5535 and quote RN433 to get a bank cheque.

I was asked which bank I wanted the cheque from. I aid CB, which is not my bank.

I expect that EITHER my DOB was asked for so that CBA could be phoned by someone pretending to be me OR when I called 02 8007 5535 I would be asked for an upfront administration fee.
